5 Quotients Everyone Should Know

The quotient is a measure of assessing an individual's ability to respond to various challenges in life. These challenges include emotional breakdown, activities that involve concentration, aptitude exams that check reasoning and logical ability and various other activities happening in our daily lives. Human has always been keen to measure his/her potential as compared to others. So, the various quotients help to give a fair idea about an individual's ability. Below are 5 quotients and everyone should know about them.

1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ)

IQ is a score that is derived from certain tests which examine human intelligence. IQ was originally invented in France to identify students who need help in academics. IQ measures a person's reasoning ability. It should gauge a person's ability to learn concepts and apply logic to question. Intelligence quotient can be useful to identify extraordinary students from students who need academic help. Here extraordinary means students who can grab concepts fast, are able to solve questions faster. By taking IQ  tests we can help students who are weak in academics. It should be noted that by just a mere IQ score we cannot judge an individual's potential or intelligence. Scott Barry says, "IQ measures a set of skills that are important to the society".

2. Emotional Quotient(EQ)

EQ is used to measure a person's emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence means how that person handles his/her emotions in daily life. It also refers to using emotions to overcome daily challenges, control actions and manage stress. EQ gives an idea about a person's way of achieving personal and professional goals. According to Daniel Goleman, an American psychologist, Self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skill are the five key elements of IQ.
IQ decides your intelligence but EQ decides what kind of person you are.

3. Spiritual Quotient (SQ)

Basically, all human beings are spiritual in nature. We are quite familiar with IQ and EQ but not with SQ. There is a need to understand Spiritual Quotient. It is the score of how spiritual a person is. Spiritual intelligence is related to how well we are able to understand the meaning of life, grasp knowledge and apply logic in our day-to-day lives. Spiritual intelligence is related to self-awareness, peace of mind, satisfaction, satisfaction, compassion, ability to think and reason out and all this together. A person with greater SQ means he/she is well contented with life, is happy in their life and is living a peaceful journey of life.

The spiritual quotient (SQ) is the sum of the Intellectual quotient (IQ) and Emotional quotient (EQ). Mathematically, it can be expressed as,
Spiritual quotient (SQ) = Intellectual quotient (IQ) + Emotional Quotient (EQ)

According to Stephan Covey, "Spiritual intelligence is central and most fundamental of all the intelligence because it becomes the source of guidance for the others."

4. Adversity Quotient (AQ)

The adverse quotient is a person's score to deal with adversities in life. Adversities mean the difficulties, challenges or the problem we face in our daily life. AQ gives a fair idea about how well we are able to handle adverse situations in our life. It is also related to the capability of a person to take proper decisions in overcoming challenges.

According to W Hidayat, the AQ also has an effect on student's mathematical understandability. Hence, it is also known as the "Science of Resilience". The AQ is very important in life because it helps us to make proper decisions in adverse situations in life. Also, the AQ is an important component of emotional intelligence (EQ). This type of intelligence is important when our surroundings change and we have to implement our thoughts into actions.

5. Creativity Quotient (CQ)

Being creative means making or thinking about something which no one has thought till now. Creativity is implementing attractive and innovative thoughts into actions. The creativity quotient is the measure of how creative a person is. It is the score of a person's ability to think out of the box. Creativity is important in our day-to-day life because we need new thoughts which are innovative and different from others. Applying these innovations to solve daily challenges will make us extraordinary.
It should be noted that creativity is not only related to artists but to everyone who strives for a living. Creativity comes useful while solving problems, aptitude-based questions, helping others, in art forms, and in various other places.
