Maintaining Good Mental Health

Hey, you! Can you claim that you have complete control over your mind and emotions and you are enjoying a healthy mental lifestyle? No, right? But, there's a good-bad news for you, you're not alone. A huge chunk of population today is suffering from unhealthy mental being.

Lack of mental well-being causes a lot of, now common, diseases like anxiety, stress, depression, self-doubt, lack of concentration, suicidal thoughts, and the list goes on. The possible reasons behind such huge increase in mental diseases may be traumatic experiences, chronic diseases, stressful life situations, financial losses, death of loved ones, failures in life.

These conditions may happen with anyone, but, one must know how to deal with such conditions in order to lead a healthy life, both mentally and physically.




Tips to maintain a good mental health:

  1. Take adequate sleep: A dominant reason behind mental illness today is lack of sleep, especially among millenials. It is estimated that 75% of people suffering from depression also experience insomnia, or lack of sleep. A sound sleep of about 7-8 hours is a must in today's hectic lifestyle. It relaxes our brain's muscles, improves concentraion, helps in reducing stress to a greater extent.
  2. Meditation: Meditation has numerous health benefits. Meditation has a number of mental health advantages, including greater attention and concentration, increased self-awareness and self-esteem, reduced stress and anxiety, and the development of kindness. One must meditate daily for around 25-30 minutes.
  3. Eating a healthy and nutritious diet: We become what we eat. Eating well – that is, eating a well-balanced meal rich in veggies and nutrients – can help you feel better and enhance your mood. We must avoid intaking alcohol and refrain from smoking.
  4. Deep breathing: Deep breathing is an instant way of taking off pressure right away. Sit in a comfortable position. Close your eyes. Slowly, breath in and breath out and ta-da, the whole world is renewed for you. It imbibes a new positivity in you.
  5. Make hobbies: Hobbies are a good way of keep your mind away from negative thoughts. Explore your options, choose what interests you and see your stress vanishing.
  6. Exercise: Regular exercise is one of the most effective ways to relax your body and mind. Plus, exercising will lift your spirits.
Keep these points in mind, the next time, when you feel stress outcasting your peace of mind and try to keep your cool, take a break, drink a lot of water, and start afresh.
